COMMITTED TO EVANGELISM

Part 4 of 6

TEXT PSALM 126:6

INTRODUCTION

This morning is our theme day when we emphasize the theme and goal of our church for 1997.

This year our theme is, “The Committed Church” and our theme verse is found in Psalm 37:5 which says, “Commit your way to the Lord, trust also in him, and he will do it.”

So far this year we have learned that God calls each one of us to be committed to him and that one of the first evidences of a truly committed Christian is commitment to God’s word, the bible.

This morning I am going to continue my series of messages on commitment.

Our text is found in Psalm 126:6 and the title of my message is, “Commitment To Evangelism.”

An 8-year-old named Debbie was listening to a preacher on the radio talk about heaven and hell.  Afterward she asked her 6-year-old brother David, “Do you know about Jesus?”  David replied, “no.”  His big sister told him to sit down because she had a real scary story to tell him.  After she explained the gospel to him as only an 8 year old could, she asked her brother, “now David, when you die, do you want to go to heaven to be with Jesus, your mommy, daddy and big sister, or do you want to go to the lake of fire to be with the devil and bank robbers?’  David thought about it for a moment and then replied, “I want to stay right here!”

As we consider the need to become committed to evangelism this morning I would like to point out four evidences of commitment to evangelism that are found in our text.
