DEMON POSSESSION PART 9 OF 11
INTRODUCTION
Tonight I would like us to continue with our discussion concerning demon possession and examine what the bible says concerning exorcising demons.
If someone becomes demon possessed it does not mean that they must remain that way for the rest of their life and have no hope of ever being freed.
In the Bible we are given numerous examples of how demons were exorcised from people.
Dr. Walter Martin who wrote the book, "The Kingdom of the Cults" was also one of America's foremost authorities on the occult.
In his book "Exorcism: Fact or Fable?" he dissects the movie, "The Exorcist" and shows how it parallels what the Bible says concerning demon possession.
In the first sentence of this book he says, "The Exorcist has made the subject of exorcism well-known."
The last time we studied the topic of demon possession we learned that there are some who teach that a Christian can become demon possessed.
I also gave you many verses of Scripture that show how this is not possible.
But just because a person says they believe in Jesus is not enough to keep them from being demon possessed or deliver them from demon possession.
The Bible tells us that even the demons themselves believe and know who Jesus is.
Mark 1:23-24, "And just then there was in their synagogue a man with an unclean spirit; and he cried out, [24] saying, "What do we have to do with You, Jesus of Nazareth? Have You come to destroy us? I know who You are--the Holy One of God!"
James 2:17-20, "Even so faith, if it has no works, is dead, being by itself. [18] But someone may well say, "You have faith, and I have works; show me your faith without the works, and I will show you my faith by my works." [19] You believe that God is one. You do well; the demons also believe, and shudder. [20] But are you willing to recognize, you foolish fellow, that faith without works is useless?"
Tonight I would like us to consider four means that are necessary for a demon to be exorcised from someone.
At the same time I want us to keep in mind that the goal of exorcising a demon from a person is to get them to accept Jesus as their savior and ask Him for forgiveness of their sins.
