THE REQUIREMENTS AND REWARDS OF WISDOM PART 4

Text - Proverbs 2:1-9

Introduction

As we continue with our study in the Book of Proverbs on the pathway to Wisdom I would like us to consider what it says in Proverbs 2:1-9 on the topic of, “The Requirements And Rewards Of Wisdom.”

When it comes to wisdom many people think that in order to be wise you have to be a certain age or have gray hair.

Job 32:9  Age is no guarantee of wisdom and understanding.  (CEV)

Wisdom is something that anyone can have as long as they do what God says.  God wants all of us to be wise no matter how old you are.

Solomon uses two words in these verses to show us what the requirements and rewards of wisdom are.

The first word is “if” and the second is “then.”

In verses 1-4 we are given three requirements that depend upon us.  These are some conditions for wisdom.  Wisdom is not something that just happens automatically just because you turn a certain age or because your hair changes from black to gray.  There are some things you have to do in order to be wise.

Then in verses 5-9 we are given three rewards that come form God.  If you fulfill the conditions mentioned in these verses God will then reward you.

As we travel down the pathway to wisdom there are some things God says we are supposed to do and there are some things God says He will do.

What are those things?  Let’s look together at verses 1-9 and see what they are.
