PART 9 WHAT TO LOOK FOR IN A HUSBAND
Text- Song of Solomon 5:8-16
Introduction
Tonight I am going to continue with my series of messages from Song of Solomon on the topic, "How To Have A Magnificent Marriage."
Our text is found in chapter 5:8-16 and the title of my message is, "What To Look For In A Husband."
In chapter 4 Solomon described for us Abishag's physical characteristics as well as her special qualities to help us understand what to look for in a wife.
Now in these closing verses of chapter 5 Abishag describes for us Solomon's physical characteristics as well as his special qualities to help us understand what to look for in a husband.
A wife went to the police station with her next-door neighbor to report that her husband was missing. The policeman asked for a description. She said, "He's 35 years old, 6 foot 4, had dark eyes, dark wavy hair, an athletic build, weighs 185 pounds, is soft-spoken, and is good to the children." However, the next-door neighbor corrected her, "Your husband is 5 foot 4 inches, chubby, bald, has a big mouth, and is mean to your children." To which the wife replied, "Yes, but who wants HIM back?"
Everyone marries with certain ideas or expectations about different issues in marriage. If a husband and wife have the same perspectives they will experience harmony and happiness in their marriage. On the other hand, if their concepts are different they are going to have division and difficulty.
People make at least three mistakes when it comes to their marital concepts and expectations.
Before marriage, a couple often assumes that they agree on various issues and therefore never discuss them in detail.
They know that they have some disagreements, but they don't think they are important and therefore never talk about them.
They pretend they are in agreement with the other person when in reality they are not. They refuse to admit what they really think in order to prevent any disturbances in the relationship. On the surface they give the impression that they agree completely; but in fact they don't.
Tonight I would like us examine five things that Abishag saw in Solomon that every woman needs to look for in a husband.
