WHAT IT MEANS TO BE A SERVANT

Psalm 119:121-128
Tonight we’re going to study verses 121-128 in the 119th Psalm. The title of my message is, “What it means to be a servant.”
A Mormon once got into an argument with Mark Twain on the issue of polygamy. After giving many arguments for justifying the practice, the Mormon demanded that Twain cite just one passage of scripture expressly forbidding polygamy. Confidently, Mark Twain quoted Matthew 6:24, "No man can serve two masters."
I once read that every church has a least three different kinds of church members. There are those called workers who serving God continuously. There are those called jerkers who serve God in spurts. And lastly, there are those called shirkers who avoid doing anything for God.
Here at our church, serving God and others is one of our five purposes. In fact we even have a class called 301- Discovering My Ministry which teaches you what the Bible says about ministry and helps you discover your spiritual S.H.A.P.E. for serving God.
What does that mean? What does a servant do? How do they act? Well, three times in our text David refers to himself as a servant. Once in verse 122, 124 and 125. At the same time he gives us three characteristics of a servant. Let's look at them together.
