THE FIRST WONDER OF THE WORLD
Life From A-Z in the Word Part 17 of 22
Psalm 119:129-136
In ancient times, the Seven Wonders of the World, included the Great pyramid of Khufu, the Hanging Gardens of Babylon, the mausoleum at Halicarnassus; the Artemision at Ephesus; the colossus of Rhodes; the Olympian Zeus statue by Phidias; and the Pharos lighthouse at Alexandria.
If you have ever watched a documentary on the seven wonders of the world on the History Channel you know that these are pretty spectacular sites. Some of which still exist today.
But what is even more spectacular than all of these is God’s Word. It is the first wonder of the world.
Tonight as we look at Psalm 119:129-136 I’d like us to consider how we can show through our life how wonderful God’s Word really is.
Abraham Lincoln once said, “In regard to this great book, I have but to say, it is the best gift God has given to man. All the good Savior gave to the world was communicated through this book. But for it we could not know right from wrong. All things most desirable for man's welfare, here and hereafter, are to be found in it.”
Herbert Hoover said, “The whole inspiration of our civilization springs from the teachings of Christ and the lessons of the prophets. To read the Bible for these fundamentals is a necessity of American life.”
Ulysses S. Grant once said, “Hold fast to the Bible as the sheet-anchor of your liberties; write its precepts in your hearts and practice them in your lives. To the influence of this book we are indebted for all the progress made in true civilization, and to this we must look as our guide in the future.”
John Milton once wrote, “In all literature, there is nothing that compares with the Bible.”
The Bible is the most wonderful book ever written. The question is, “How wonderful is it to you?” For that matter, how do you know when someone thinks the Bible is wonderful?
David gives us two ways you can tell when someone thinks the Bible is wonderful.
When God’s Word is wonderful to you...
