THE HOW, WHAT AND WHO OF PRAYER
Matthew 6:1-13
Introduction
What is prayer? It is communication between God and man. It is the expression of man’s dependence upon God for all things.
Before we can pray properly we must remember that prayer requires a few things, such as:
- Sincerity
- Repentance
- Purpose
- A godly life
- The spirit of dedication
- Faith
- Submission to the will of God
How many of us feel comfortable talking to God? How many of us feel uncomfortable talking to God and feel as though he is like a distant relative that we only talk to once or twice a year?
Only you know if your prayer life is dull or not and only you can take care of that.
It has been figured that if a man lives to be 70 years and attends church every Sunday from the day he is born he would spend a total of 10 years going to church. This of course leaves us with still 60 years. Out of those 60 years is taken 35 years for working and sleeping at an average of 16 hours a day. This would still leave us with 25 years.
What do we do with 25 years of life?
- Go on vacations
- Relax
- Go to movies
- Attend parties
- Working around the house
- Watch TV
- Eat
Even at the average of 4 hours a day for all of these things it uses only 6 years out of the 25. This leaves us with a total of 19 years. What are we going to do with 19 years?
You might be asking yourself right now, “What difference does it make?” or “Who Cares?”
It is a known fact that the reason for 99% of all family disputes stem from the lack of communication. This is the same reason why we have so many problems in our lives as Children of God. We never talk with our Father, God Almighty.
We need to start talking to God and know how and what we ought to say, especially in this day and time.
