HOW TO DEAL WITH FAMILY

TEXT- 1 TIMOTHY 5:1-2

INTRODUCTION

This morning I am going to continue with my series of messages from the book of First Timothy on the topic of the church.

Our text today is found in 1 Timothy 5:1-2 and the title of my message is, “How To Deal With Family.”

Within the Bible there are many different metaphors used to describe the church.

a. 1 Peter 2:9- a holy nation
b. Revelation 5:10- a kingdom
c. 1 Peter 2:5,9- a priesthood
d. Ephesians 2:20-22 - a temple
e. 1 Corinthians 12:12- a body
f. 1 Peter 5:2-3 - a flock

Here within our text Paul uses one other metaphor to describe the church. He talks about the church as a family. The word family speaks of the intimacy, care, openness and love that the members have for one another.

Ephesians 2:19, “So then you are no longer strangers and aliens, but you are fellow citizens with the saints, and are of God's household.”

Galatians 6:10, “So then, while we have opportunity, let us do good to all men, and especially to those who are of the household of the faith.”

No family is ever perfect and that goes double for any church. Wherever there are people there will always be sin and conflicts.

Someone once said that the church is like Noah’s Ark. “If it were not for the storm that is raging on the outside we could not stand the stench that is on the inside.”

This morning I would like us to look at how we are to treat one another as family members within the Lord’s church.
