BEING READY TO GIVE
Text - 2 Corinthians 9:1-5
Introduction
This morning we are going to continue with our study from the book of Second Corinthians on the topic of giving.
This subject covers two entire chapters in this book which is the longest section anywhere in the Bible.
The last time we looked at Second Corinthians we learned from chapter 8 that the churches of Macedonia had chosen three men to represent them in the special offering for the church in Jerusalem.
In chapter 8:24 Paul admonished the church in Corinth to show these messengers the proof of their love through their giving.
The reason why Paul is encouraging them to do this is because he wanted them to be ready when the messengers arrived and not be caught unprepared.
Throughout our text Paul uses the word “ready” or “prepared” five different times.
If the messengers came to Corinth and the church was not ready to give, their testimony and reputation could be damaged. That’s because a person’s testimony and their giving are closely connected.
This morning our text is found in 2 Corinthians 9:1-5 and the title of my message is, “Being Ready To Give.”
As we examine this passage there are four ways we can prepare ourselves to give to God.
