THE BLESSINGS OF GIVING
Text- 2 Corinthians 9:6-11
Introduction
This morning we are going to continue with the study we have been doing in the book of Second Corinthians which was written by the Apostle Paul to the church in Corinth for the purpose of encouraging them to become more involved in the lord's ministry.
Today our text is found in 2 Corinthians 9:6-11 and the title of my message is, "The Blessings Of Giving."
The Apostle Paul tells us in Acts 20:35, "In everything I showed you that by working hard in this manner you must help the weak and remember the words of the Lord Jesus, that he himself said, 'It is more blessed to give than to receive.'"
A man once knelt with his pastor and committed himself to God to give a certain percent of his income as long as he lived. From his first week's pay he gave $1 to the lord. Soon his weekly offering had increased to $10. As time went on, he continued to prosper. Before long he was giving $100 a week, then $200, and in time, $500 a week. Finally he called the pastor. "Please come and see me." he said. "You remember that promise I made to god years ago? How can I get out of it? When I made the promise, I only had to give a dollar, but now it's $500. I can't afford to give away money like that." The wise old pastor looked at his friend and said, "I'm afraid you cannot get out of the promise, but there is something we can do. We can kneel down and ask God to shrink your income so that you can afford to give a dollar again."
Someone who is not giving to the Lord or not involved in the Lord's ministry is missing out on some wonderful blessings.
As we examine our text we will find three things we need to do in order to experience the blessings of giving.
