The Parable Of The Talents

Text- Matthew 25:14-30

Introduction

This morning I am going to continue with my series of sermons on the topic of committing our time and talents to the service of the Lord. Our text is found in Matthew 25:14-30. Here in this passage we find the parable of the talents.

Television shows like American Idol have become a global phenomenon. Millions vote and then wait anxiously to find out who will be the next singer eliminated in the musical talent hunt.

Shows like this have been around for some time. There was Ted Mack’s Original Amateur Hour which first was heard on radio from 1934-1952 and then on television until 1970. Then there was the bizarre talent hunt called The Gong Show in the 70s, and then there was Star Search in the 80s hosted by Ed McMahon. Now there is America;s Got Talent.  Talent shows like these are an ongoing theme of television to search for someone unknown and make him or her famous.

God is also searching for people who are willing to use the talents he has given to them and make themselves available to do his work in this world.

As we look at our text this morning I’d like us to see how we can apply what Jesus said about the talents God has given to us in our lives today.
