HOW TO SHARE CHRIST WITH YOUR CHILDREN
Passing On Your Faith Part 3
Three small boys were bragging about their fathers. The first boy bragged about how his dad owned a farm. The second boy said that his dad owned a farm. The third boy, a pastor’s son said, “That’s nothing. My dad owns hell.” “No way,” the other two replied. “How can a man own hell?” “I don’t know,” said the PK. “But my mom told my grandma that the elders of our church gave it to him last night.”
Tonight I am going to continue with my series of messages on some practical ways to share your faith with those around you.
So far we have looked at how to be a witness at work and how to reach your relatives. This evening I would like us to look at what is involved in sharing Christ with your children.
Some of you tonight might be saying, but all my children are grown-up and are now living on your own. Others might be thinking, “I don’t have any children.”
The things I am going to say tonight can be used to share Christ with your own children, your grandchildren or even someone else’s children.
Mark 10:13-14, “One day some parents brought their children to Jesus so he could touch them and bless them, but the disciples told them (WHAT) not to bother him. 14But when Jesus saw what was happening, he was very displeased with his disciples. He said to them, ‘Let the children (WHAT) come to me. Don't stop them! For the Kingdom of God belongs to such as these.’” (NLT)
LITTLE CHILDREN ARE A BIG CONCERN TO GOD
The great evangelist D.L. Moody was once asked how many people had come to Christ through one of his sermons. He said that it was 1½. The person responded, “I suppose the one half was a child and the other person was an adult.” D.L. Moody said, “No, the one half was an adult and the other was a child. The adult has half of his life left to live for Christ while the child has his whole life.”
I’d like to ask all of you to now break up into your small groups of 3 or 4 people and discuss the following question on your outline together.
What are some ways that we might hinder children from coming to Christ?
A Sunday school teacher asked her class, "How many of you children would like to go to Heaven?" All of them raised their hands, except little Ronnie. So, the teacher asked him why he didn’t raise his hand. Ronnie replied. "I'm sorry, but my Mommy told me to come right home after church today."
As we consider how to share Christ with our children I would like us to look at seven steps that all of us need to follow in order to help a child clearly understand the Gospel and trust Christ.
