HOW TO AVOID SOME COMMON MISTAKES IN WITNESSING
Passing On Your Faith Part 4
A drunk stumbled along a baptismal service being held by a church one afternoon down by a river. He proceeded to stumble down into the water and stood next to the pastor. The pastor turns and notices the drunk and says, “Mister, are you ready to find Jesus?”
The drunk looks at the preacher and says, “Yes sir, I am.”
The preacher then dunks the man under the water, pulls him right back up and says, “Have you found Jesus?”
“No, I didn’t!” says the drunk.
The preacher again dunks the drunk under water but this time a little while longer, brings him up and says, “Now brother, have you found Jesus?”
“No, I didn’t!” says the drunk again.
Disgusted, the preacher again dunks the man and this time holds him under for at least 30 seconds. When he brings him up out of the water he asks the man, “By the grace of God, have you found Jesus yet!!!!????”
The drunk is spitting and choking up water, wipes his eyes and says to the preacher, “Are you sure this is where he fell in?”
Tonight I would like us to look at how to avoid five common mistakes that Christians sometimes make when they are trying to witness to someone.
(Everyone Read) Ecclesiastes 7:20, “There is no one on earth who does what is right all the time and never makes a mistake.” (TEV)
One of the very first mistakes that some Christians make is overlooking one of the greatest needs in witnessing. If you were to ask the average believer, “What is the greatest need in witnessing?” you would probably hear a variety of answers. Some would say you should have more non-Christian friends. Others would say that you have to pray more. Then there would be those who would say that you should be more zealous.
While most unbelievers understand that Jesus died on the cross, they often don’t understand that He died for them! So, how do you avoid this misunderstanding?
