PUT JESUS FIRST IN TIMES OF TROUBLE PART 9

Text- Hebrews 10:32-39

Introduction

This morning is our priority Sunday service.

The first Sunday of each month has been designated priority Sunday in order to emphasize the theme of our church this year which is, "Putting Jesus First".

In doing this we have been studying from the book of Hebrews which presents the preeminence of Jesus and shows us why he should be first in our lives.

A humorous story is told about a conversation between a pig and a chicken. The pig said to the chicken, "Farmer Brown has certainly been kind to us. He's provided us with a nice place to stay and plenty to eat. We should do something nice for him."

That's a great idea!" the chicken agreed, "And I know exactly what we can do. We can provide farmer Brown with a nice breakfast. I'll provide the eggs and you can provide the bacon."

The pig paused, thinking, and then replied, "For you that's an offering, for me it's total commitment."

Today we hear a lot of talk about commitment to ideals, to our nation, to our church, to our jobs, and to our families.

Yet the Bible teaches that the most essential commitment is to Jesus Christ.

Our commitment to other people or things is no deeper or better than our commitment to Jesus.

Total commitment to Jesus means that we must put him first in our lives.

Matthew 6:33; "But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added to you."

Our text this morning is found in Hebrews 10:32-39 and the title of my message is, "Putting Jesus First in Times of Trouble".

As children of God it is easy for us to put Jesus first in our lives when everything is going our way and we are worshiping him in a comfortable church building.

That doesn't take much of a commitment.

But it does take a great amount of commitment to put Jesus first when our very lives are being threatened.

As we examine this passage of scripture I would like us to consider four ways to put Jesus first whenever you experience the troubles of life.
