HOW TO STAY FAITHFUL TO GOD

Text - Hebrews 10:19-31

Introduction

The story is told about a young boy whose dad left him on a downtown street corner one morning and told him to wait until he finished running his errands and returned in about 30 minutes. Along the way however, the father’s car broke down and he was unable to get to a phone. Eight hours went by before the father was able to get back, and he was worried that something might have happened to his son. But when the father got there, the boy was standing in front of a store, looking into the window and rocking back and forth on his heels. When the father saw him he ran up to his son and hugged and kissed him. After the father apologized, he asked, “Weren’t you worried? Did you think I was never coming back?” The boy looked up into his father’s eyes and replied, ‘No dad. I knew you were coming. You said you would.”

As children of God we need to be as faithful to our heavenly Father as this child was in waiting for his earthly father.

For over 2000 years God’s children have been waiting for Jesus to return to take them home with him.  We know he is returning, because he promised he would.  While we are waiting for him we need to be faithful in doing the things he has commanded us to do within his word.

This morning our text is found in Hebrews 10:19-31 and the title of my message is, “How To Stay Faithful To God.”

As we examine this passage of scripture I would like us to pay particular attention to three things that can help us remain faithful to God while we wait for Jesus to return.
