HOW THE WORLD SEES JESUS IN YOUR LIFE

Text- John 12:20-26

Introduction

This morning my sermon test is found in John 12:20-26 and the title of my sermon is, "How The World Sees Jesus In Your Life."

John 12:20-26 Now there were some Greeks among those who went up to worship at the Feast.  21 They came to Philip, who was from Bethsaida in Galilee, with a request. "Sir," they said, "we would like to see Jesus."  22 Philip went to tell Andrew; Andrew and Philip in turn told Jesus.  23 Jesus replied, "The hour has come for the Son of Man to be glorified.  24 I tell you the truth, unless a kernel of wheat falls to the ground and dies, it remains only a single seed. But if it dies, it produces many seeds.  25 The man who loves his life will lose it, while the man who hates his life in this world will keep it for eternal life.  26 Whoever serves me must follow me; and where I am, my servant also will be. My Father will honor the one who serves me. (NIV)

Here in these verses we find some Greeks along with some other people going to worship at the Passover feast.  In verse 21 we are told that they came to Philip and began to ask him saying, "Sir, we would like to see Jesus".

Over and over in the Bible we are told how people wanted to see Jesus.  In Luke 19:3 we are told how Zacchaeus wanted to see Jesus.  In Luke 23:8 we are told how Herod wanted to see Jesus.  In John 7:50 Nicodemus went to see Jesus.  In John 4:30 we are told that even an entire town when to see Jesus.

Within the Bible we are not told what Jesus looked like.  The Bible never gives a physical description of Jesus. Even the men who saw Him every day didn’t tell us what He looked like.  Look at what the Bible does say about his physical appearance.

Isaiah 53:2b He had no beauty or majesty to attract us to him, nothing in his appearance that we should desire him.  (NIV)

Today there are many pictures of Jesus.  One shows Jesus knocking at a door and another depicts Him as a Shepherd with His sheep.  Warner Sallman painted the well-known “Head of Christ” and other portraits of Jesus in the 1940s. Those images are just one man’s idea of what Jesus might have looked like.  No one knows for sure.

But we do know what his life looked like.  And in these last days with so much loose living, morality on the decline, selfishness, insensitivity and hypocrisy; the world needs to see the Lord Jesus Christ.

One way they can do this is through the Bible.  But another way is through the lives of his people.  In fact, sometimes we as believers are the only Bible that some people read.

You’re writing a gospel, a chapter each day,
By the deeds that you do, by the words that you say;
People read what you write, whether faithless or true--
So, what is the gospel according to you?

Your life can either be a Bible or a libel.  So, what is your life saying?  We need to live our life is such a way so that when people get to know us they will also get to know Christ.

Matthew 5:14-16 You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden.  15 Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house.   16 In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven. (NIV)

If the world is going to see Jesus through us as his people, what should they see?  Three things.
