THE MOTIVES OF A CHILD OF GOD PART 2
Proverbs 16:2 A person thinks all his ways are pure, but the Lord weighs motives. (GW)
INTRODUCTION
This morning I am going to continue with my message series on "The Motives Of A Child Of God".
We are still playing detectives and we are still under investigation. As you question yourself through out this series, you might find that some of your motives for doing the things that you do are all wrong.
At a country-club party a young man was introduced to an attractive girl. Immediately he began flattering her outrageously. The girl liked the young man, but she was taken aback a bit by his fast and ardent pitch. She was amazed when after 30 minutes he seriously proposed marriage.
"Look," she said. "We only met a half hour ago. How can you be so sure? We know nothing about each other."
"You're wrong," the young man declared. "For the past 5 years I've been working in the bank where your father has his account."
What should you do if you find that your motive for doing something is wrong? What we should all do no matter who we are is correct our motives and ask God to forgive us of having the wrong kind of motives.
As children of God, what good is it if we do the things we do with the wrong kind of motives? Are we going to profit from it in eternity? Is it going to help the cause of Christ or further the ministry of this church?
1 Corinthians 15:32a If from human motives I fought with wild beasts at Ephesus, what does it profit me? (NASB)
If we have the wrong kind of motives behind the things that we do, we are only going to bring God's judgment upon ourselves, because God knows our motives in everything that we do.
