NEGLECTING TO HONOR PARENTS
Text- Exodus 20:12
Introduction
Last month on Mother's Day I spoke to you on the topic of honoring your parents.
In that message I explained that the first four of the ten commandments deals with our relationship with God and the last six commandments deals with our relationship with other human beings.
From this we learned how that the location of this fifth commandment shows us that honoring our parents is first of all based upon our relationship with God and secondly, that it is the basis for all other human relationships.
We also learned that God promises to bless those who will honor their parents as he commanded.
This Father’s Day, the title of my message is, "Neglecting To Honor Parents" and I would like us to consider seven reasons why some children today refuse to honor their parents.
Paul warned us that this was going to happen in the last days and today we are seeing many children doing this.
2 Timothy 3:2 For people will love only themselves and their money. They will be boastful and proud, scoffing at God, disobedient to their parents, and ungrateful. They will consider nothing sacred. (NLT)
A little boy and his mother were looking through some old pictures. They came upon one of a handsome young man. "Who is that?" asked Timmy. "That's your father," replied the mother proudly. "Oh yeah?" Said Timmy doubtfully. "Well, then who's that old, fat bald-headed man that lives with us now?"
As we look this morning at the reasons why some children refuse to honor their parents I would like us to consider seven things.
