THE KEY TO ETERNAL SECURITY

This morning we’re going to continue our verse-by-verse study in the book of First John on “Living Confidently For God.”  Today our text is found in 1 John 3:1-10 and the title of the message is, “How To Have Eternal Security.”

Our culture today is totally focused on how to be secure. Every day our government tries to keep us secure from terrorism.  That’s why we have homeland security and TSA guards in the airports.  That’s why we have alarms on our houses.  That’s why we have locks and deadbolts on our doors.  That’s why people have car alarms.  That’s why we have firewalls on our computers.  That’s why we have security guards in banks.

Yet, as much as we try to make ourselves secure something always goes wrong.  We have alarms and still get burglarized.  We lock our houses and cars and they still get broken into.  We have TSA at the airport x-raying and patting people down and as was recently reported on the news people still get on planes without tickets and even with taser guns.  We have homeland security and there is still terrorism.

Today we hear a lot about social security, but what we really have is social insecurity. The truth is, as much as we try to make ourselves secure, we can’t.  If you’re looking to the government for security, you’ll never find it.  If you’re looking to your money for security, you’ll never find it.  If you’re thinking Wall Street can give you security, you’ll never find it.  If you think the police can make you secure, you’ll never find it.  The only way to be really secure is through God.  The Bible says God is able to give you eternal security!  How?  In our text today John says you can have eternal security by doing three things.  In order to have eternal security I need to first...
