THE LORDSHIP OF JESUS Part 1 of 11
TEXT- Philippians 2:9-11
INTRODUCTION
This morning is the first Sunday of the month and of the New Year 1996.
Throughout this year on our theme days I will be preaching a new series of messages on the topic, "The Lordship of Jesus."
Our theme verse is found in Philippians 2:9-11 which is also my text today.
As we learn what these verses say concerning the lordship of Jesus I would like us to consider how we can see the lordship of Jesus through his name.
Two cowboys met and introduced themselves to each other. One said, "My name is Tex." The second one asked, "Are you from Texas?" the first one answered, "Nope, I'm from Louisiana, but what man wants to be called Louise?"
What is a name?
Shakespeare said, "That which we call a rose by any other name would smell as sweet."
Within the Bible there are more than 800 different descriptive names and titles that refer to Jesus.
When we consider the name of Jesus we learn that it is a Greek transliteration of the Hebrew name Joshua which literally means, "Jehovah is salvation."
This morning I would like us to consider three ways to recognize the lordship of Jesus through his name.
