JESUS, THE LORD OF HUSBANDS Part 5 of 11
TEXT- EPHESIANS 5:25-33
INTRODUCTION
Today is our theme day here at Grace Church when we emphasize our 1996 theme, which is, "The Church Where Jesus is Lord."
In doing this I have been preaching a series of messages on the first Sunday of every month on the topic, "Making Jesus your lord."
Today there are many people who have accepted Jesus as their savior and are saved, but have never accepted Jesus as their Lord.
This might be out of ignorance or it could be out of rebellion.
Perhaps they have never realized that they needed to surrender themselves to the lordship of Jesus.
Or maybe, they want to go to heaven when they die, but they just don't want to live for Jesus while they are alive.
As we have been emphasizing the lordship of Jesus I have been presenting the various ways Jesus needs to become our Lord.
We have seen how he should be our Lord on an individual basis.
We have also seen how that he should be our Lord in our church life.
Last month we looked at how our behavior is affected when Jesus is the Lord of our life.
This morning our text is found in Ephesians 5:25-33 and I would like us to consider the need for husbands to make Jesus the Lord of their life and how that will affect their relationship with their wife.
A man was looking out his living room window when he called to his wife in the kitchen. "Hey, there goes that woman bill Jones is in love with." The wife immediately dropped the dish she was drying and ran from the kitchen to the living room, knocking over a lamp along the way and peered through the window. "Where is she?" she panted. "Over there." the husband pointed. "That woman across the street in the red coat." "That's bill's wife,” she said with disgust. "Well, of course it is," said the husband, "who did you expect it to be?"
When a husband has surrendered himself to the lordship of Jesus Christ he is going to love his wife the same way that Jesus Christ loves the church.
While this message is primarily for husbands, it can also apply to all of us in any relationship. When you are surrendered to the Lordship of Jesus your love will be characterized in four ways.
